All weddings are fun, and beautiful. But this one was FUN!!!!!!!!! :) I've been sooo spoilt this year with the amazing weddings, amazing brides who trust me, and do ANYTHING I ask! They let me put them in fields with pianos, or lying down on a dirty wharf!! :)

Matt and Sarah. What can I say. I cried, laughed seriously, and just had the BEST time!!!

Matt and Sarah are moving to China very soon, and so it was the sweetest thing to celebrate with alot of Matts family!

My approach to wedding photography is this- your photos should be a representation of YOUR day, and who YOU are! If you're relationship is quiet and still, I hope to show the beauty of that.... if you're a bit oddball - then hopefully people can see that through your photos!

Nick and Genesa - well I have to say that these photos suit them! They are both music teachers, they're young, a little crazy, and really creative and fun! The piano in a field isn't just cool - it's them! :)

And this my favourtie wedding of the year so far!!!!! :)

I totally adore both Nick, Genesa and their amazing "bridal family", and fell in love with their families! We had the MOST perfect day, and I couldn't think of anything at all that would have made it better!!

Favourite Moment: For the Bridal waltz, Nick and Genesa sang a song, while their bridal party did a choreographed dance! Also! The cows "attacking" us in the field!!

My New Years was a little chilled. I'd had a wedding that day, so I was a LITTLE tired :). But ending the night with friends, and games, and old school tv (my husband is a dag!!) was great! We went around and spoke of the things that we were thankful for that year - I know, sounds super corny right?! But it was good.
I'm learning from my mistakes! I'm kinda proud of this. And rather than make "resolutions", I'm deciding to just resolve to grow more... (which I know sounds like a resolution, but I swear its not!!!)

I was soo touched by hearing the story of Kirralees life! How she was premature, and how her parents thought that they wouldn't have her for 21 days, let alone 21 years! How Kirralee is this ongoing miracle to this precious family - seriously, I went home and cried, and reminded myself to be more thankful for what I have!!! Congrats Kirralee!! Molly & Tim!! What can I say, this was one of the most amazing, creative weddings I've EVER been a part of!!! Molly and her mum Pam, MADE the bouquets, the buttonholes and all the flower arrangements. They MADE her dress. They handmade everything, and it was at their property in Cobbitty! I loved every minute.

My favourite part was the grooms speech. Tim made almost everyone cry with his sweet words about Molly - I now have a slight couple crush on them!! :)

Christmas!

So! Merry Christmas to you internet friends!!! My hope and prayer is that you have had a blessed day, and that 2012 is your best year yet!

I've been working pretty hard at my "other" job this December. So I'm pretty BEHIND in my bloggin! I'm going to try and do better next year!

While I've had a few days to relax, I've been thinking about what's next. Taking stock of your life is important, and starting to set new goals, and see how you did this past year has been a good experience for me! :) (thank goodness!)

NOTE: This becomes a little personal! :)

In many ways, 2011 has been SUCH a transitional year for me. Transitioning from what I thought was the plan, into something different. Transitioning from seeing myself as one thing, to becoming another. Our senior pastor leaving this year was massive for my husband and I. It has really grown a new dream inside of us! (I'm sure I'll blog about that sometime!). Becoming an aunty and a god-mother this year has really challenged me (but in a good way!). I think this year I've grown more than I ever have before - because of difficulty! Character development and all that lovely stuff!! :)

While I stood watching our family playing cricket after Christmas lunch, I became very emotional! I had to walk away, get some alone time, and I cried. I cried because at the end of a hard year I know that I can trust these beautiful people, and they are the closest people I have. I cried because I'm glad this years over, but I'm also excited about what's to come. I cried because I was tired, and had eaten too much!

I love my family, and I'm thankful for my life and my journey. Thankful for the "other" job, and that it's so flexible - that I can do something I love too (that's you photography!). Thankful for people that love me enough to forgive my weaknesses and mistakes! Thankful for Simon, cause he just knows how to make me smile even when I'm in the "depths of despair" (Anne of Green Gables people will get it!).

I'm thankful this Christmas, for God's plan, and for people.

Happy New year my friends. I'm going to be MORE thankful in 2012.

I've made it!

Simon is my sounding board. As my husband he hears me jabber on about this that and anything to do with my business! I talk to him about goals that I want to set, how I think I do after every shoot, what I'm happy with, what I hate, how my art is evolving, what gear I need to buy, what Jasmine Star would do in each situation.... :) you name it.
I'm pretty critical of myself. I'm hard on myself. Simon helps me keep things in perspective. He encourages me. Especially early on, I wouldn't have done some shoots without Simon's ~~yelling~~ encouraging me into it!

One of the things that I was really challenged about a few months ago, was my online presence. I didn't have a facebook page, and only 3 ppl (I'm pretty sure) read my blog EVER! I didnt know how to grow my business, or to get clients! So, Simon encouraged me to start a facebook page.

I did it. But I wasn't happy about it! I didn't want to base my sucess in photography on how many "likers" I had! I REALLY struggled with having a numerical value on it! I felt embarassed that I'd left it so long, and I didn't want to ask anyone to like my page (cause that's just lame right?).

So Simon asked how many "likers" I'd need to feel legit. I mean, Jasmine Star has like 30,000. One of my fav Australian photographers - Janine Kaye had 1,000. Even my friend from school had 300!

So, I thought about it.... and decided that when I had 150 likers, I would be ok. And not feel like I'm just starting out anymore. I wouldn't feel like I was unworthy or lame. That when I'd got 150 likers, I'd be set.
Guess what internet??!!! I now have 150 likers!!!!!

It DOES sound dumb... but it's a little accomplishment for me - I'm kinda proud!! I'm now going to allow myself to feel good - set new goals and move forward! I'm enjoying being a part-time-more-time photographer!! :) YAY!!!!!! (Celebration music..........)

New goal. 300.

Exchange Conference

Our church hosted the "exchange conference" this weekend! It was designed to support and encourage leaders in smaller church settings - and to share and learn from each other - hence the "exchange".

It was great! The theme was the "next step" and I got a little excited and took some photos to use as art work in the church!

Tae and Lauren's journey to becoming parents was rough. It's so hard to watch your friends go through difficult times without being able to do anything except support them, and pray!

I found out that Lauren was pregnant very early, and we've been treading this line between hope and not trying to get too excited - it's exhausting!!!

But amidst all the difficult times, we now have a beautiful new life - Ezekiel James!!!

I LOVE him!!! And I am a very very proud god-mother!!!

So maybe you might remember that I said some people you'll always be friends with!? Skye is one of those.

She is my oldest friend - we were in preschool and kindergarten together. But then she moved to Ulladulla, and then to Canada, and then to Newcastle.

But we're still friends. And yes, we're definately not the same people, but I still love her, and I know that she still loves me. She's one of the only people that I so sure she'll still like me whatever crazy thing I tell her!!

Anyway!!! Her baby sister - Brittany, got married last night, and I was totally blessed and terrified when they asked me to shoot the wedding!!!!!

Wow, so saturday night I went to the 21st of one of my cell group girls! (remember I did a wedding of one of them a while ago - with horses and everything), well another girl from that same group had her 21st birthday - and OH what a night!!!

Ok, so I got a bit teary... for when two of the sweetest people join their lives together - it's just sooo beautiful. Seriously!

Matty and Kim have been in youth ministry together and basically fell in love because of their love for God - and it was SUCH a blessing to be part of their day yesterday. I can't say enough how honoured I was to be taking photos.

Both Simon and I feel very protective of this couple, and feel almost responsible and parent-like to them -as we've watched their love really blossom over the past years!! And I'm sooooo proud of them. I'm crying as I write this, because their love is beautiful, and because a cord of three strands is not easily broken.

The NYE of a lifetime!

New years eve has always been good. Parties, watching the fireworks on TV, etc. But this year surpassed them all...

One of my husbands best friends (mine too) moved to the city a while ago. He moved to Bluespoint... right near the harbour bridge. So for new years we went to his apartment and had this AH-Mazing view!!! A british man, a few cocktails, mini burgers, a hugely scary walk and many hours later, and I feel asleep (4am). Awesome night!!

Ok, so she's super gorgeous, a super woman - who hand made these AH-MAZING invitations, made her OWN wedding cake (including the figures on the top!!?), colour coded her itineraries to match the bridal colours. Oh!? Did I mention that she's a mum too with a 4yo and an 8 month old????????

:) I seriously had an amazing day (and I was just the photographer!!!). Bron and Dean were sooo easy to get on with, they totally looked after me, and were willing to do whatever I asked (even sit on this totally smelly rock that made me want to puke - looked good though!). Such a meaningful, gorgeous day (even though it rained a little)!!!

Ok, so I've never really been to a Tongan wedding before - and I've totally been missing out!!! The dancing - it just could not be contained!

Loved Mel and Christian's day - they met on facebook - isn't that amazing!! Ahh, love prevails over distance and circumstance!

Routine...

So, I find it difficult to get into a routine. I'm one of those crazy (awful) creative types that needs to do something different all the time. I'm learning that it's ok to have an unstructured structure (most of the time!).
I think what I do need is ORDER. And this is what I'm trying to work out. How I keep ordered, but not structured..??

On a completely different note, tomorrow is Mel and Christian's wedding. Cant wait!!!!

I love this location. But I really have only just found out where it is. It kept popping up in other photographers blogs, and I would think "man, I wish I knew where that was". Then! I found it!!!

So.... will ANYONE let me shoot them here???? It's in Wollongong, and I'd love a bride and groom, or... anyone really!!!!!

BTW, just got back from Fiji, and have LOVED relaxing and regenerating. Totally needed it.

Mark and Sarah - wow. These guys were ok with anything, and seriously the most chilled out people I've EVER met. I've known Sarah for years, and was very proud of her and her choice in husband! Mark is fantastic.

The minister at the service said "they're young, but that just means they're not afraid of commitment, and that they'll need our help". So true.

I had such a great day, and seriously almost cried when they told me they were going to ride a horse!!!!! xxx
